Birthday holiday

Many people decide to go on holiday for their birthday. It may be it is a special birthday and you are able to splash out doing something that you wouldn’t normally be able to do for a holiday.

When planning a holiday for a birthday it is even more important to ensure that it all goes well. No one wants their birthday to be spoilt by a holiday from hell.

Firstly ensure that you have all the correct paperwork such as passports and insurance. When picking your resort, read reviews and make sure that they are recent, there is no point in reading about building work that was going on 5 years ago and is likely to no longer be an issue.

If you plan ahead you may be able to plan a surprise for the day of your loved one or friends actually birthday, really making it a holiday to remember.

Travelling the world

The world is such a massive place and many of us only get to experience such a small part of it. For some of us that is fine and we are quite content but for others, they may wish to get out there and travel around a bit to see what else the world has to offer.

Travelling around the world can bring a massive sense of adventure and can help people not only learn about other cultures and the way other people live but also help them learn more about themselves.

If you are open minded and accepting then you can make a lot of new friends by travelling around the world and are most likely to be able to get close to many of the locals in the areas that you are staying in.

It is not cheap travelling around so you may have to save up for a while and possibly try and find work whilst on your travels, but if you are happy to stay in hostels etc then you can do it on a relatively low budget.

Safety when travelling abroad

When you travel abroad you may need to be more aware of your safety than in this country. Some countries unfortunately have high rates of crime and often tourists are targeted as they don’t know the areas or what to look out for.

When travelling abroad, try and book as much of your travel in advance as possible. Even booking taxis from a reputable company could put your mind at ease that not only should you be safe but that you will not be ripped off if you have already agreed a price. When venturing out of your complex you can always ask the reception staff of areas in which you should or shouldn’t visit and if there are any local scams that you should be aware of. Often just doing a bit of research on the internet before you go will give you a good indication of what to look out for.

Save money on travel

If you are looking to travel and want to save a bit of money then I have a few handy tips for you that could give you a bit more spending money that you had planned.

You may not believe how much money you can save by travelling at different times of the year or even different times of the day. Most travel companies such as airlines, bus operators and even the accommodation provider will often slash prices on certain days or months.

When I was recently looking to go abroad from the UK to Spain, I was amazed to find out that I could save a massive £40 per person on my flights by going 3 days earlier. This meant in total I would save £160 which would be a nice bit of extra money to take with us.

Many holiday websites will show prices available if you booked your holiday a few days or a week either side of your selected dates. My advice is to check these in detail and if at all possible, book with the lowest price you can.

Trip to Amsterdam

Though Amsterdam has a bit of a reputation as the number one stag-do destination, with its “coffee” shops and seedy red light district, there is much more to the city than you might think. Known as the “Venice of the north”, being built on a maze of canals, this picturesque city is packed with world class museums, a buzzing nightlife and great architecture.

The airport is a short train ride from the city, and once there the best way to get around is by bicycle. Cycling is the most popular form of transport around the city and you will find the road system much more accommodating t cyclists than some other cities. Bicycles can be hired for a small sum, or you can make use of the excellent tram system.

The city houses some excellent art galleries and museums, with the Van Gough museum being a particular highlight. The night life is great and with plenty to do, Amsterdam is a great destination for a short break or a longer stay.
